Beauty on a Budget: Everyday Wear

For college students on a budget (or anyone, really!), spending $40 on a mascara or lipstick isn't very wise or realistic! Beauty on a budget shouldn't mean buying makeup only 8-year-olds would play with. Here are a couple of products (each under $10) that I've used to create an everyday makeup look!

Freeman 'Facial Polishing Mask'

Pamper time is crucial for my sanity. I need at least one night out of the week to float around in a luxurious bath, scrub myself away, do my nails, and (my favorite) apply a mask. I've used many masks before (some you make at home, some that come in a little foil packet, and some that are expensive enough for me to believe it will give me new skin!).

One mask that I have been loving is the Freeman 'Facial Polishing Mask' (Charcoal and Black Sugar). It has a grainy texture that doesn't necessarily "glide" onto the skin, but once it's on, it's on! I usually leave it on for 25 minutes (the bottle recommends only 5-7 minutes, but I like to get my moneys worth!) since I like to do my nails or other pampering ritual at the same time!
The fun doesn't happen until you remove the mask. To remove the product, I like to rub it off so that it exfoliates my skin. For some reason, I feel a heating sensation on my skin while removing the product. It's the weirdest thing ever...not sure if it happens to anyone else!
Anyway, the way my skin feels after is indescribable! It feels so clean and smooth! My face serums and moisturizer absorb faster, too. The day after, my face makeup applies on so much smoother. I feel like this product does so much more for my skin because it cleanses my skin the way a mask would, but also exfoliates it due to the grainy texture of the black sugar. This product is like 2-in-1! For the price, I would definitely recommend it.

The Little Things

* College Coffee Stands: College students are notorious for their consumption of coffee. I am included in this category! I especially love how my campus has a coffee stand in not only one, but two locations! I'm sure many other campuses and coffee shops have realized they can make even more money off of college students through caffeine addiction!

* Multi-functional Clothes: Now, I am a huge fan of clothes I can wear to school, to a family gathering, and even to sleep! I must admit, I get a little carried away with this sometimes, but it's just so easy! I absolutely love basics that are both comfy and stylish! My favorite basics are from h&m and Zara.

* iBooks: Reading has never been so easy with iBooks! Since I have to carry a million other books and goods with me, lugging around a physical book isn't very practical for me. So, iBooks has saved me and I'm now back at it with the reading! (Currently reading: Lolita)

My School Essentials

As a college student, I never imagined myself attending summer school. In fact, I've never really attended school in the summer before college. Summer was always considered the break we all needed (and deserved!), but college doesn't really work that way for me. Summer is now considered an extra 8 weeks to get stuff done!

* Messenger bag: I like using messenger-style bags mainly because they can fit all of my essentials and some food! This bag has tons of pockets and sections to keep everything organized. And, I really like cross-body bags! (Bag from Brandy Melville)

* Notebook: If it fits in my current bag, I take a notebook with me! I don't really use this for class notes. Whenever a blog post idea hits me in the face or if I feel like writing, I pull this baby out! It's really handy especially when I have an hour to kill in between classes!

* iPhone: My main form of entertainment!

* Pens & pencils: I like to carry at least one of each!

* Hand lotion and lip balm: I always need these items when I don't have them with me so now I make it a habit to always carry around some lotion and lip balm!

* Card pouch (Louis Vuitton): I usually attach this to my car keys. I like to carry all my cards (license, credit card, etc.) in one pouch.

* Sunglasses: The sun can be a little bright sometimes!

* h&m pouches: I like to keep everything as organized as possible, which is why I love these pouches. I like to carry my blotting sheets and powder in one pouch and loose change in the other!

A Look At Face Primers

About a year ago, I had no interest in face primers. I would apply my foundation straight onto my skin, which there is nothing wrong with, but I feel like a proper base enhances the appearance and longevity of your makeup. And if you work so hard to apply all that makeup, why wouldn't you want it to last all day?? So, for the past 6 months, I have been on a hunt for a primer that keeps my makeup on all day (or the majority of the day!) and minimizes the amount of oil on my face.

I'm big on experimenting with multiple products so this was no exception. I have been using these 5 face primers for a decent amount of time and some are amazing and some...not so great.

1. Maybelline 'Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser'
I will admit, I purchased this product mainly because every one and their mother was talking about it! This primer has a silicone-y, almost greasy feel to it (a big no-no for my oily skin!). It's meant to "erase" the appearance of pores so I figured it wouldn't really do much for oily skin. I would definitely recommend this product for normal skin types or for those who have large pores. It gives my skin a smoother appearance and although i don't have large pores, it reduces the size of my medium-sized pores. Although it creates a smooth base, I find that my foundation applies differently. Before I set it with powder, it almost feels slippery, as if it can't adhere to my skin. Although I always set my foundation with powder, after a few hours, I get this slippery feeling again and I find that most of my foundation has rubbed off.

2. Forever21 'Smoothing Face Balm'
I think this product is pretty basic when it comes to face primers. The product itself is not specifically for face priming, but I use this product as a base. I find that it gives my skin a smooth and flawless appearance. Similar to 'Baby Skin,' it reduces the appearance of pores and almost blurs out imperfections. It doesn't enhance my oily skin, but it doesn't control it either. I really like this product mainly because it is such a basic primer that creates a smooth and even base for my foundation. I just really don't like the packaging. I don't like putting my fingers in the jar and using a brush gets bristles in the product!

3. L'Oreal 'Magic Lumi'
If you're a fan of dewy skin, the Magic Lumi primer is a winner for you! Although I have oily skin, I feel like a matte finish makes me look flat. When I want healthy looking skin, I automatically reach for this primer. It doesn't improve the longevity of my makeup, but it definitely gives my skin a healthy glow. But, on extremely hot days or even on days where I'm sweating, this primer makes me look too oily and shiny (disco ball status)! I would recommend avoiding this primer in the summer if you have oily skin, but for the winter season, it's perfection!

4. Forever21 'Face Primer'
The Forever21 face primer is almost an exact dupe of 'Magic Lumi.' It has basically the same formula, but I feel like the Forever21 'Face Primer' gives a more subtle glow. Again, it doesn't improve the longevity of my makeup, but it gives a subtle glow to my skin. The only thing I really don't like about this product is the smell... If you hate the smell of generic hand soap, then stay away!

5. Miracle Skin Transformer 'Tinted Skin Enhancer'
The 'Tinted Skin Enhancer' is also a pretty basic product. It's a 5-in-1 product though so I think it's a great multi-purpose tool! You can use it as a primer, sunscreen, or if you have great skin, as a "foundation." Since it basically has no coverage, I like to use it as a face primer. It has a mousse-like texture and it's very light on the skin. I find that it evens out my skin tone and fills in my pores, but it doesn't improve the longevity of my makeup or control my oily skin. This product is a bit on the pricier side, so I would personally skip out on this splurge.

Sundays through An iPhone

If I'm ever in a bad mood or seriously depressed, nothing can cheer me up like a swap meet or flea market. I can spend hours looking at old junk (hey! someone's trash is another person's treasure!).

I stood at the book stand reading this ^ for 5 minutes!

Outfit of the day
Dress: h&m | Slider sandals: h&m | Crossbody: Louis Vuitton | Sunglasses: Michael Kors

There are lots of yummy fried foods at a swap meet, but what I look forward the most is the COCONUT! The men at the stand basically cut up a fresh coconut and separate the water from the "meat" (is that what you would call it?) and it is the best thing ever!

A Banquet of Color!

Spring and summer always inspire me to play around with bright colors! Although I wear monochromatic colors throughout the year, I like to add bright colors on my nails! I have been loving these nail polishes for the spring and summer...

2.  Essie 'Orange, It's Obvious'
3. O. P. I 'Cosmo-Not Tonight Honey!'
4. Essie 'Sunday Funday'
5. China Glaze 'Tart-y For The Party'
6. Covergirl Outlast 'Pink-finity'

May Favorites!

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer: I have been on the hunt for a primer that leaves my skin completely matte and keeps my makeup on all day! I am happy to say that I have finally found it! After so much experimentation with numerous primers, the Rimmel Stay Matte primer keeps my oily skin shine-free for hours. My makeup also lasts longer than it usually does.

Wet n Wild lipsticks: When it comes to lip products, I don't really like to experiment. I am happy with a simple lip balm or a fuss-free lipstick. But, these Wet n Wild lipsticks have such great color payoff and don't dry out my lips! The two colors I have been loving are 'Wine Room' and 'Mauve Outta here.'

Two Faced 'Better Than Sex' Mascara: I usually don't like buying expensive mascaras, and with my recent disappointment with Benefit's 'They're Real!' Mascara, I wasn't ready to try out another high end mascara. However, I decided to give this mascara a try. I am so happy I did because this product is amazing! The formula isn't wet so I can apply more than 2 coats without my lashes looking clumpy. I feel like the more coats I apply, the more my lashes are separated and fanned out and just look amazing. I highly recommend this product and I will most likely be repurchasing this!

The Balm's 'Nude'tude' eyeshadow palette: I have been lusting over an Urban Decay 'Naked' palette for what seems like the longest time, but I just can't bring myself to spend that much money on a palette. The Nude'tude palette satisfies that craving and has been so handy! I love how the palette incorporates both matte and shimmer eyeshadows. This allows me to create so many diverse looks! My favorites from the palette are 'Stand-offish,' 'Sultry,' and 'Seductive.'

Nike 'Roshe Run': Currently, I am really into comfort when it comes to my style. These Nikes give me just that, but the ombre effect also adds an edgy twist to a basic shoe.

Bralettes: Since my current style is all about the comfort, bralettes have been a necessity! Instead of wearing an annoying bra, these bralettes give me the right amount of support, but with the added comfort! And, they look so cute with a sheer top or low-armhole shirt!

My Skin Care Routine

Taking care of my skin has been crucial ever since I started wearing makeup. During my early teen years, I had extremely problematic skin. Because of that, I have experimented with numerous products and now, I have found a regime that works for my skin!

Night Time Skincare Routine:
The most important part of my skin day is night time. This is when I apply most of my skincare products because they have all night to absorb and work their magic!

1. Cleansing
I usually wash my face in the shower before bed. I like to use an exfoliating face wash to really wash away all the makeup and dead skin from the day. The St. Ives 'Blemish Control Apricot Scrub' has small beads that aren't too harsh on my skin, but that provide enough exfoliation to give me soft and clean skin.

2. Cleansing, Again!
After cleansing my face (& getting out of the shower!), I will take a cotton ball with my Bioderma and apply that all over my face. I usually focus this around my eye area since I don't use my exfoliator over this sensitive area. The Bioderma solution (for oily skin) removes any left over makeup on my face. I take this extra step in cleansing to really make sure no makeup is left on my skin.

3. Serum
I am a huge fan of serums so this step is a must! My favorite serums are the Clinique 'Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector,' the Bobbi Brown 'Intensive Skin Supplement,' and the Kiehl's 'Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution.' All of these have worked great for my skin and really reduce the look of dark spots!

4. Moisturize and Treat
Lastly, I moisturize and treat any spots! This step is my favorite because my face feels so clean and soft afterwards. I absolutely love the Clinique 'Moisture Surge' moisturizer and Philosophy's 'Hope in a Jar.' Since I have oily skin, moisturizing after cleansing is a must because it prevents my skin from producing more oils. To treat any blemishes, I use the Clinique 'Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel,' which contains salicylic acid to treat the spot immediately.

Morning Skincare Routine:
I usually don't like to do much to my skin in the morning, mainly because I'm too sleepy! But, I do make sure to take the necessary steps to prep my skin for the day!

1. Cleanse
I like to start off by cleansing my skin. If I'm really committed, I'll wash my face with Cetaphil or some other gentle cleanser. On days where I can't be bothered, I take my Bioderma (lifesaver!) and a cotton ball and just run that all over my face.

2. Moisturize
To make things simple and fast in the morning, I moisturize with the Uriage 'Oily Skin Cream' or Philosophy's 'Hope in a Jar.'
